Puzzle doors in Hogwarts Legacy: how to solve

Some players may have noticed several doors around the Hogwarts Castle with strange images around the frame, with a puzzle on the middle of the door. Here’s how to solve them.

Here’s an example door in Hogwarts Legacy. If you interact with the door itself, it will reveal its puzzle.

The top puzzle interacts with the single “?” tile, and the bottom puzzle interacts with the “??” tile.

The ? and ?? tiles are always close to the door itself. Sometimes one is a little further away, but they’re always very close.

All you need to do is figure out what symbol the two tiles need to be changed to, in order to solve the puzzle.

What values do the symbols have in Hogwarts Legacy puzzle doors?

Each symbol corresponds to a certain number. But what numbers go with what symbol? A quick answer is, if you check the symbols around the door frame, they go from 0-9 (starting from the bottom left).

However, if you managed to do a certain quest early on in the game, there is a little note on a crate that you can pick up, and it will stay in your inventory for future reference:

These are the solutions for every door. All symbols always correspond to the same number.

So all you need to do is work out the puzzle with a little bit of math.

In our example door above, the solution to the Hogwarts Legacy puzzle door is the following:

For the “?” tile:

12 + Spider + ? = 22

The spider equals 8, so 12 + 8 = 20. We need 22, so all we need is 2. So we need the dragon head symbol for the “?” tile.

For the “??” tile:

The unicorn + weird tentacle thing + ?? = 9

So since the unicorn is 1, and the weird tentacle thin is 7, 1 + 7 = 8. We need to get this to 9, so all that’s missing is 1.

What is 1? Another unicorn.

Once you change the symbols on the tiles to the correct image, go back to the door and interact with it. It will open up to reveal a secret room. Usually with a few chests in it to loot from. The Hogwarts castle has several of these doors, so all you need to do is keep a note of what symbols equal what number, and use a little bit of arithmetic to figure it out.

Good luck!
